Hypermagnesemia in Clinical Practice
نویسندگان
چکیده
Hypermagnesemia is a relatively uncommon but potentially life-threatening electrolyte disturbance characterized by elevated magnesium concentrations in the blood. Magnesium crucial mineral involved various physiological functions, such as neuromuscular conduction, cardiac excitability, vasomotor tone, insulin metabolism, and muscular contraction. Hypomagnesemia prevalent that can lead to several neuromuscular, cardiac, or nervous system disorders. has been associated with adverse clinical outcomes, particularly hospitalized patients. Prompt identification management of hypermagnesemia are prevent complications, respiratory cardiovascular negative dysfunction, coma. Preventing crucial, high-risk populations, patients impaired renal function those receiving magnesium-containing medications supplements. Clinical involves discontinuing therapies, intravenous fluid therapy, dialysis severe cases. Furthermore, healthcare providers should monitor serum concentration at risk promptly intervene if exceeds normal range.

متن کاملAn analysis of hypermagnesemia and hypomagnesemia.
Serum magnesium (Mg) was measured in 6,252 patients; in 1,246 (19.9%) the value was abnormal. Hypermagnesemia (serum Mg greater than or equal to 3.9 mg/dl) was observed in 51 patients (0.8%) and hypomagnesemia (Mg less than or equal to 1.5 mg/dl) in 165 (2.6%). Hypermagnesemia was found in patients with renal failure treated with Mg-containing antacids or cathartics, or with eclamptic convulsio...

A hypermagnesemic adult sheep during an experimental study showed gastraointestinal and respiratory changes along with cardiovascular alterations included of obvious bradycardia and heart block. In order to save the animal from fatal bradycardia, atropine sulfate was administrated instatntly at one dose 0.3 mg/kg. The animal was survived and rhythm returned to sinus rhythm from marked bradycard...
متن کاملAssociation of hypermagnesemia and blood pressure in the critically ill.
BACKGROUND Although magnesium is important in the biology of blood pressure regulation, little clinical data exist on the association of hypermagnesemia and blood pressure. METHOD We examined the association of hypermagnesemia and SBP in a cross-sectional study of 10 521 ICU patients from a single tertiary care medical center, 6% of whom had a serum magnesium above 2.6 mg/dl at time of admiss...
